The Boy with the Light in his Eyes

Sitting on the edge of a stone,
he looks at the world with a twinkle in his eyes,
staring at dour faces and wrinkled eyelids,
searching in vain for his future among us.

His dark hair dance to the tune of the wind,
his curious eyes filled with hope and despair,
his lips smile silently at the world,
maybe he knows more of us than us.

Would it be fair for me to ignore him,
would it mean anything if I feel pity for him,
or should I feel pity for the world we live in?

I wonder how it would be for him,
what he thinks of the world,
no one seems to care for the boy with the light in his eyes.
